At EarthCare Gardens, all of our landscaping work is guided by thoughtful garden design. Whether we are transforming an entire garden or refining a smaller area, we believe the best landscapes are created when layout, materials and planting are carefully designed and planned from the outset.
We work across South London and North East Surrey areas, delivering high-quality, eco-conscious landscaping for clients who value considered design, skilled craftsmanship and built-to-last gardens that mature beautifully over time.

At EarthCare Gardens, we believe exceptional landscaping starts long before the first spade goes into the ground.
Every successful garden — large or small — is the result of thoughtful design, not just skilled construction.
A considered design allows us to understand how your garden will be used, how it connects to your home, how it will evolve through the seasons, and how materials, levels and planting work together as a whole. This approach ensures the finished garden feels cohesive, balanced and built to last — not pieced together over time.
We regularly undertake smaller landscaping projects, but only where design is part of the process. Whether it’s a terrace, planting scheme, pathway or seating area, even modest changes benefit enormously from careful planning. Design-led landscaping avoids costly revisions, improves longevity, and creates outdoor spaces that mature beautifully rather than date quickly.
This is why we don’t offer “stand-alone” landscaping without a garden design first.
Instead, we work with clients who value clarity, craftsmanship and gardens that are shaped with intention from the outset.

Design is not an extra — it’s the foundation of everything we build.
Our landscaping services are shaped by the same principles as our garden design work: clarity, craftsmanship and longevity.
We undertake a wide range of landscaping projects across South London and North East Surrey — from full garden transformations to carefully considered smaller works — provided they are guided by a clear design intention.
This ensures every element sits comfortably within the wider garden, functions beautifully day to day, and improves with time rather than needing correction later.
Design-Led Landscaping Projects We Undertake
Terraces, patios and pathways designed to complement the architecture of your home
Level changes, steps and retaining structures that feel natural and balanced
Planting schemes — ornamental, edible or wildlife-focused — planned for year-round structure
Lawns, wildflower meadow areas and soft landscaping integrated into the overall layout
Fencing, screens and boundaries designed for privacy, flow and longevity
Courtyards, smaller urban gardens and compact spaces where good design matters most
Wildlife ponds and natural water features that flow and blend beautifully with your garden design
A Thoughtful Approach — Whatever the Scale

Smaller landscaping projects are very much part of our work — and often some of the most rewarding. A single well-designed element can completely change how a garden feels and functions.
What matters to us is not size, but intent. By approaching every project through design first, we’re able to deliver landscaping that feels calm, cohesive and built with purpose — not rushed, piecemeal or purely functional.
Landscaping should feel like a natural extension of the design — not a separate trade bolted on afterwards.
Every landscaping project we undertake begins with garden design.
This allows us to plan properly, cost accurately, and deliver gardens that feel cohesive, considered and built to last.
By separating design from build, we give each stage the time and attention it deserves — and our clients clarity from the very beginning.

We begin the process with a free phone or video call, followed by a free on-site consultation across South London and North East Surrey. This initial stage allows us to understand your garden, how you want to use it, your design preferences and practical considerations — forming a clear foundation for the design stage that follows.

Using the information gathered, we develop an initial landscape garden design concept.
This includes layout ideas, materials, spatial flow and early planting direction. We then refine the design with your input, ensuring the garden feels right for both your home and lifestyle before moving into detailed planning.

Once the concept is agreed upon, and you have decided which materials to go ahead with, we then go ahead and produce a detailed landscaping master plan and full specifications.
This enables us to prepare a clear, itemised landscaping quotation — allowing costs, materials and timescales to be confirmed accurately before any work begins.

With the design complete, your project is scheduled into our landscaping programme.
Our experienced landscape gardeners manage construction, planting and finishing details with care and precision. On completion, we walk you through your new garden, explain planting and aftercare, and can provide ongoing support if required.
A well-designed garden takes time — and that time is what makes the difference.
Ready to explore what’s possible with your garden?
From compact urban courtyards to generous family gardens, our recent work reflects a consistent, design-led approach to landscaping.
Every project in our portfolio begins with careful garden design — ensuring layout, materials and planting work together as a cohesive whole. Whether we’re creating a contemporary garden terrace, an edible planting scheme, a wildlife-friendly garden or a complete landscape transformation, the same principles apply: clarity of design, skilled craftsmanship and gardens that improve with time.
The projects shown here were delivered across South London and Surrey, and include both full garden builds and thoughtfully designed smaller works. What unites them is not scale, but intent — landscapes shaped with purpose, built to last, and designed to sit comfortably within their surroundings.

This neglected, split level South London garden on a slope was transformed through a design-led landscaping process, turning an underused space into a calm, wildlife-friendly garden with clear structure, improved flow and year-round interest.
Working from a detailed garden design, we reshaped the layout, introduced defined levels and planting zones, and delivered a cohesive outdoor space that feels generous, balanced and deeply connected to nature — despite its modest size for a garden in Surrey.
1. The Brief
The homeowners wanted a garden with garden rooms that felt natural, peaceful and full of life, with space to relax and enjoy wildlife throughout the seasons — without creating a high-maintenance garden. They were keen for the space to feel larger and more usable, while supporting birds, bees and butterflies and blending ornamental and edible planting into a calm, informal design.
2. The Design
We developed a design-led landscape plan that restructured the garden into clear zones for buildings, planting, movement and seating. split-level areas and pathways were introduced to soften the layout and improve flow, while a natural-style and meadow-inspired planting added ecological value. Materials, levels and planting were carefully coordinated to ensure the garden felt cohesive and timeless. Edible plants and herbs were discreetly woven into ornamental borders to enhance both function and seasonal interest.
3. The Build
Once the design was approved, our landscaping team reshaped the ground levels, constructed new pathways and terraces, installed the out-buildings and fences on the slopes, and improved soil structure throughout the garden. Planting was carried out in layers, using wildlife-supporting species selected for structure, longevity and seasonal change — ensuring the garden would mature beautifully over time.
The Result 🌻🐝
The finished garden is a calm, immersive outdoor space that feels significantly larger than before. It now functions as a thriving suburban sanctuary, supporting birds, bees, butterflies, insects and amphibians, while offering the homeowners a beautiful garden to enjoy all year round.
This project perfectly demonstrates how design-led landscaping can transform even neglected sloping gardens into purposeful, long-lasting spaces.
